How does Anti Wrinkle treatments work?
Botulinum toxin A is used for many different treatments including migraines and excessive sweating, but most commonly it is used for cosmetic treatments for anti-wrinkles.
In an aesthetic treatment of anti wrinkle injections, the Botulinum toxin attaches to the nerve ending, which inhibit the nerve endings response to the neurotransmitter responsible for triggering muscle contractions. This then causes the muscle to "freeze" which in turn reduces the appearance of wrinkles as the muscle remains relaxed.
Botulinum toxin A can be used to treat "worry lines" and "frown lines" which appear in the upper third of the face, also know as "11s". Horizontal forehead lines can be treated with Botulinum toxin A as well as "crow's feet" (laughter lines) and "bunny lines".
There are many areas that Botulinum toxin A can be used, these include lateral eyebrow lift, help with dimpling of the chin and to minimise large masseters (to help reduce teeth grinding).
Botulinum toxin A can help reduce dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles/lines that appear when a facial expression is made), not static wrinkles (wrinkles/lines that appear when at rest). For static wrinkles the use of dermal fillers may be needed.
