How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers are injectable substances manufactured to mimic the functions of subcutaneous fats and tissues. The aging process causes these tissues and fats to break down which in turn causes the face to seemingly sink in, giving the appearence of a flatter and more hollow face. Dermal fillers can be injected into areas affected in the face to raise the skin and create the illusion of youthful, pumped-up appearence.
Dermal fillers can be used in many cosmetic/aesthetic treatments, including wrinkle lines, flat cheekbones and deep scars. Dermal fillers are also very popularly used as lip injections to help create the appearance of a fuller pout and improve imperfections.
The process of having injectable dermal fillers is performed in a clinic setting. During the procedure the client is numbed with local anesthetic cream first, then the practitioner gives the client a number of injections using the appropriate dermal filler, and following the treatment the client can return to work or return to a regular routine immediately.
There are natural and synthetic dermal fillers available on the market.
